Adam Lambert’s “Trespassing” Shines

If you think this album is For Your Entertainment, Part Deux, think again. Idol Season Eight runner-up Adam Lambert gets up close and personal with his fans with his sophomore album, Trespassing. The album hit stores May 15, and debuted at number 1 in its first week, making Lambert the first openly gay artist to do so. It features the singles “Better Than I Know Myself”, and the Bruno Mars penned “Never Close Our Eyes”.

Lambert served as executive producer of this album, and wrote or co-wrote a majority of the songs. While FYE was just Adam feeling his way into the

mainstream pop industry, Trespassing is clearly Lambert’s way of making himself comfortable. Teaming up with familiar producer names, such as Pharrell Williams, Dr. Luke, and Claude Kelly, Trespassing is from start to finish, one of my favorite pop albums of 2012 thus far.

The first single, “Better Than I Know Myself”, sounds very much like a follow up to his single, “Whataya Want From Me”. One of the few songs not penned by Lambert, it’s somber and revealing. The singer tackles relationship issues, singing, “If I wanted to leave, I would’ve left by now/Cause you’re the one that knows me/Better than I know myself”. One of my favorites off of the album, the song is relatable and easy for many to connect to on a personal level.

“Never Close Our Eyes”, which just released to mainstream airwaves after a week on satellite radio, is a collab that may throw some people off. Penned by singer-songwriter Bruno Mars, “Never Close Our Eyes” is definitely a fun track and sounds like a strong competitor for the summer song of 2012, if not a staple for the party scene.

Trespassing is half dance music, half somber ballads, and all around a fun album. While there truly are no weak songs on the album, the best track is arguably “Runnin'”, a song that appears exclusively to the deluxe edition of Trespassing. From start to finish, Trespassing was a delight to listen to, and I cannot wait to hear more from Adam.

Try this: “Runnin'”; “Trespassing”; “Underneath”
