Poor unfortunate souls! The familiar characters we all love to hate are back and more glamorous than ever in the upcoming Disney Villains Designer Collection. This exclusive set follows on the success of the Disney Princess Designer Collection from last year. The collection will include dolls, apparel, beauty products, home items, and stationary that will be made available in stores and online in September 2012.

Customers will have their pick of several classic Disney villains that include the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatian’s, the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Ursula from The Little Mermaid, and a fairly new character, Mother Gothel from Tangled. Each doll is limited edition and only 13,000 will be manufactured and sold.

A representative of Disney, John Balen, said, “The Disney Villains Designer Collection is a unique, stylized, and fashion-forward take on these iconic characters. Our design team created a frightfully beautiful collection that is a new and exciting interpretation of the classic Disney Villains.” Frightfully beautiful is right. The dolls are very detailed and capture the essence of each character perfectly. They stand at 11 and 1/2 inches tall and some of them include satin dresses, sequins, jeweled detailing, and capes.  All of the characters are decorated with extravagant hair and thorough make up designs.  These dolls will be priced at $79.50 each.

While the detail that was put into these dolls is extensive and nearly identical to the

classic cartoon characters, there have been a lot of complaints about one character in particular. The Little Mermaid’s bad girl supreme, Ursula, has undergone a major makeover compared to the other dolls. Many people ask why she has been dramatically altered to have such a tiny waist when the classic 1989 movie shows her with voluminous curves and a lower half made up of black tentacles. Disney has yet to comment on questions regarding the drastic changes that have been made to the Ursula doll.

The Disney Villains Designer Collection is not just about the dolls, there will be totes, ceramic mugs, scarves, mirror compacts, as well as makeup items to choose from.  The set will include 3 lip gloss shades, a palette of 6 eye shadows, and an assortment of nail polishes all named after and inspired by the popular Disney Villains. This collection is sure to have something for every Disney fan, young or old. Products will be available at DisneyStore.com in September of this year.

    They ruined Ursula!!

I agree! They should have left her the way she originally was in the movie. It’s unfortunate that they felt like they had to make the doll skinny just so it would sell.
