How many virgins do you know? Not many? That’s alright! In the 21st century, being a virgin is quickly becoming less and less important than back when our parents and grandparents were children. Some blame it on social media, some blame it on the upbringing of the kids of this generation, and some blame it simply on YOU!

Whether or not you are a virgin, is not the question today. I have no interest in prying into your personal lives about your sexual history, or lack thereof. I, do not care if a person has slept with 1 person, or if they have slept with 10 people, it is your body, your choice, and I have no right to judge you on your choices.

However, as a college freshman, and a virgin (which I am not at all embarrassed to admit), I encounter numerous conversations and questions ranging from subtle to downright invasive about my lack of sexual history. I have no problem with the fact that I am a virgin in college, and I definitely have no problem admitting it. Yes, I realize it is the 21st century, and people treat sex as a fad that is in style, and that is your prerogative, it’s your life, and you have the right to do with it as you please, but I missed the news bulletin, that stated I must follow in your actions.

In my opinion, I do not believe that this generation is taking pre-marital sex less important than past generations, I believe that the reason it seems as if we are, is because people in this generation are much more open about their sexual history than past generations. Now, whether that is because of the influence of social media, the upbringing of children, peer pressure or other factors, the fact still remains that we as young adults, treat sex as a fashion style that is in season, resulting in pregnant teenagers, and an increase in STD’s.

We as young adults, need to become much more aware of the consequences of our actions, and need to stop focusing on other people’s lives, and what they are doing, and focus on our own.
